Why do some golf balls have a small letter in some of the dimples?

I’ve noticed that some brands of golf balls have a very small letter moulded into several of the dimples. Is this some security or authentication feature?

Its a manufacturing mark, typically a date code.

Its either part of the logo or part of the manufacturing.

manufacturing stamp, some companies have more than one factory.
Its kind of like the letters on coins, telling you where they were minted.
